Backpacks, pencils, highlighters, and notebooks are beginning to line the sale aisles at your local stores. Parents are receiving classroom assignments and bus schedules for their kids. The signs are clear: the end of summer is approaching. These changes all mean it is time to start preparing yourself and your family for the upcoming school year. As teachers prepare your children for educational success, it's essential to consider their health this school year. Delaune's Pharmacy is here to help parents and kids to stay healthy this year.
Kids' Health & Wellness
A healthy school year starts with a trip to Delaune's Pharmacy to stock up on any vitamins or medications your family might need. For a healthy start to the school year, consider purchasing:
Multivitamins – The foods we eat do not give adequate vitamins and minerals to support growth and development. Multivitamins are a great way to supplement the body's necessary nutrients.
Vitamin C – Germs abound at school; help protect your kids' immune system.
Elderberry – Available in syrup and kid-friendly gummy form, elderberry helps reduce the duration of colds.
First aid kit– Be ready for any scrapes and cuts. Check your first aid kit to see what items need to be restocked with a trip to your Delaune's Pharmacy.
Probiotics – Promote gut health with probiotics to help keep the stomach bugs away.
Stop by the pharmacy counter for a recommendation from Delaune's Pharmacy for more items to add to your back-to-school health and wellness shopping list.
Continued COVID Awareness
There are many new ways of dealing with the current COVID pandemic. Recently, the FDA approved Novavax, which uses a different technology than traditional COVID-19 vaccines. This new vaccine uses two doses and is recommended for people 18 and older. Delaune's Pharmacy will notify you as soon as we add this vaccine to our arsenal.
Delaune's Pharmacy still administers vaccines by appointment if you need a COVID vaccine or a booster shot. For those experiencing COVID symptoms, test kits are readily available to purchase. If you receive positive test results, the CDC has provided a Quarantine and Isolation Interactive Tool with the most up-to-date guidelines on masking, isolation, and when safe to end quarantine measures.
August is National Immunization Awareness Month
"This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life," states Christina Howerton, Manager/Marketing and New Media at National Health Council.
Many children are still behind on their vaccines, a danger with school beginning soon for many students. Delaune's Pharmacy can discuss the CDC Child Vaccine Schedule with you to help bridge the health gap with missing immunizations. Vaccine-preventable diseases include:
Meningitis
Diphtheria
Tetanus
Measles
Mumps
Rubella
Immunization awareness applies to adults, too! As we head into another flu season, consult your Delaune's Pharmacy regarding any adult vaccinations you and your family might need. Adults are still playing catch up with their health and wellness visits due to a significant drop in primary care provider appointments over the last two years. Don't wait months for immunization; visit Delaune's Pharmacy today for an adult vaccine consultation!
